The Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Power
It is natural that people who are considering generating electricity from wind power should be concerned about the advantages and disadvantages of the process in reaching a decision.
This is especially so for people who are determined to build their own wind turbine rather than purchase a commercial version at considerable cost.
Certainly it is very much easier and quicker to purchase a commercial model but the price differential makes the do-it-yourself version the preferred alternative for most people.
One disadvantage of building a wind turbine is the time taken to shop for the various components and put them together. On the other hand many people would regard this as a very pleasant pastime, and when the cost-saving is taken into account the project becomes even more pleasant.
Another disadvantage that must be taken into consideration is the fact that the wind doesn’t always blow, and gathering data in relation to wind speed, direction and frequency is a very important matter.
Some people may feel that wind turbines are unsightly, and there is no doubt that they are not the most beautiful things in the world. On the other hand TV antennas are not very attractive either, but that certainly doesn’t stop most people from having a TV. And when we think about it, watching TV costs money, whereas operating a wind turbine has the opposite effect– it saves money.
But without a doubt the greatest advantage is that any harnessing of natural power, however small, plays an important part in the reduction of C02and so reduces the greenhouse effect and global warming.
Certainly there seems no doubt when considering the advantages and disadvantages of wind power that the balance falls very much in favor of dispensing with the power company by building a wind turbine.
Alex Wilson is a writer and management consultant who shares with most of the world’s people the concern about global warming and the need for us all to make a contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions. He believes we can all do this by generating our electricity by wind and/or solar power whenever this is possible. He is confident this is indeed possible and invites you to visit his blog at http://www.solar-power-wind-power.com Article Source:http://www.articlesbase.com/environment-articles/the-advantages-and-disadvantages-of-wind-power-1042207.html
