Many corporations have been proactive in the field of solar energy and to that end a company named SunPower has recently inked a deal with Wal-mart and Horizon Power to install solar systems.

SunPower just finished building a 554 kilowatt solar power system at a Wal-Mart store in Hanford. The company has high expectations for the energy system. They estimate that it will generate 15% of the store’s elctricity.

And of course, whenever solar energy is used to create electricity in place of fossil fuels it lowers the emissions and decreases the carbon footprint. In this case it is lowered by up to 8000 tons of GHG emissions per year.

It is our fervent wish that more companies will turn to alternate energy sources so that we may once and for all break our addiction to oil and fossil fuels.

It was heartening to see President-elect Barack Obama speak of his commitment to alternate energy as he announced his nominee Steven Chu as the head of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Obama is showing his commitment to the environment while touting the use of renewable resources. Wind and solar power will play a central role in his energy policy going forward.

It will be quite interesting to learn more about Chu’s policies as he lays out his objectives as the head of the Energy Department. We will most certainly stay abreast of all major decisions and relay them to our readers here at www.solarwindenergys.com.
